Contextualised amidst societal and workforce changes and needs (existing and emerging), this interactive presentation will:
- exemplify systems thinking and statistics in practice (for everyday life through to careers);
- deliver an accessible and informative seminar and Q&A explaining and connecting systems thinking, statistics, Industry 5.0 and the Future of Work;
- facilitate a step-change in people’s thinking and a thirst for more.
About the presenter: PETER HOWLEY
Peter Howley is a national and international leader and award winning academic and practitioner in Statistics, Systems thinking and improvement and integrated STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).
Peter’s expertise and experience is vast, with roles including: Professor of Statistics and Systems Improvement; Assistant Dean for Outreach and Engagement; inaugural Science and Technology Australia STEM Ambassador; inaugural University STEM+Medicine Ambassador; expert advisor to the Australian Curriculum; Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) and other State/Territory Education Leaders; Chair of the Statistical Society of Australia’s Statistical Education section; Vice President of the Hunter Innovation and Science Hub; Director of the national Science and Engineering Challenge, and Director of Step-change for industry and education.
Peter is the creator and coordinator of many leading national (and local) STEM and Education initiatives and resources, including: Australia’s National Schools Poster Competition, (www.ssapostercomp.info) delivered annually since 2014; and in 2023 for schools nationally, “Preparing for Industry 5.0 and beyond: Facilitating the cradle-to-career life cycle” (https://ssss.org.au/).
Peter has received a 2015 national Office for Learning and Teaching Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning, the 2017 International Statistical Institute’s Best Cooperative Project Award, and the 2018 Statistical Society of Australia’s Service Award.
He has worked collaboratively with the Australian Council on Health Care Standards, Taipei Medical University, Taiwan Health, Health Services Research Group, Hunter Medical Research Institute, AMPControl, STEM Industry Schools Partnership (NSW Dept of Education), and many other organisations, universities, and interdisciplinary colleagues.
He has initiated, led and created successful postgraduate (and undergraduate) programs and courses in Data Analytics, Data Science, Integrated STEMM, Statistics, Total Quality Management and Systems thinking.
Peter provides workforce upskilling, professional development, and consulting in statistics, systems thinking, total quality management to industry and education locally & nationally (https://mcbbp.com.au/solutions/transformation-factory/training-and-workshops/ and https://mcbbp.com.au/solutions/for-educators/stemss-academy/), as well as supporting medical professionals conduct research – as part of his consulting and statistical support.
