Hunter Region Botanic Gardens

The Gardens presents an interactive exhibition in the Gardens’ Education Pavilion on the general theme of “How Plants Work”.  The 2021 exhibition will focus on “Pollination in the Gardens”.  A series of displays and experiments are set up for visitors to explore.  Explainers are on hand to encourage visitors to explore the expedition and assist with experiments. The exhibition is being developed and presented in conjunction with the Hunter Valley Amateur Beekeepers Association.  Topics to be addressed will include:

  • How flowering plants changed the world
  • The variety of pollinators – insects, birds and mammals
  • Pollination of food crops
  • Pollination of native plants
  • Orchid pollination
  • Honey bee culture
  • Native bee culture
  • Threats to our pollinators
