How Plants Work is an interactive exhibition at the Hunter Region Botanic Gardens.

All life on earth depends on plants. Using simple observations and experiments, visitors can gain fascinating insights into how it all happens.

Explainers are on hand to encourage visitors to explore the expedition and assist with experiments.

Topics include:

  • How plants make food and oxygen from sunlight
  • How plants use insects and animals to reproduce
  • Seeds and how they grow
  • Soils and how plants use them
  • How we classify plants and what it tells us
  • Plants and fungi

The exhibition is suitable for all ages from primary school upwards and is directly related to studies in science and the environment. It is an inspiring enrichment experience for school groups.

The Gardens welcome visits from school groups during the exhibition, though bookings are requested. Alternately, schools may wish to encourage parents and children to visit the exhibition.
